OK - so examining the KiCad, it seems that /FS on the 6847 is not connected to /FS on the header. Hence the link connects the /FSs back together again essentially via /MS on the motherboard. It is either a mistake I have made and a mistake on the original D200E board which I have just copied across. I will need to experiment.

Lol. So that was the fault all along then. Or featurette. Or technical debt. Or just plain balls-up by Eurohard or moi!

Connecting the /FS pins together removes the need for the jumper wire. I wonder whether the original design was purely to account for difficult routing? We will never know.
