AGD converted games. ISSUES found

Post by pser1 »

Hi,
I am opening this thread so that any user that finds any issue while playing one of these games
could tell us about it and so we could try to find a way to solve it.
By now Ciaran Anscomb has commented us that he has experienced problems in these games
- Jane Jelly game series. Sometimes the sprite is bad positioned when changing to a new screen.
- Kid Cadet 3 same problem even getting stuck is some cases
- Vectornauts some screens are not accesible ...

If you find any 'strange' issue while playing any of these games, please report them here so that we
could keep this list up to date.

Most of the times this happens because some of these games have been developped with AGD versions
that are no more supported by the current converter version.

cheers

issue with Flype.

after completing level #1 and loosing all your lives 'game over'.
restart the game at level #1.
your score starts at 10 with only 1 life available.
bubbles sometimes start part filled, and level is impossible to finish.
I am, you are, we are, they're not...

I am afraid that this is not any issue.
The game 'always' begins with only 1 life. Each time you solve a level, you get an extra life
And concerning the score, it starts from 10 even the very first time you play.

Pd I will upload a v2.0 disc that will always start with 0 points

@.mad.
Concerning FLYPE
I have got a screen with balls neither empty nor full and you were right, when this happens
it is impossible to pass that level.
I have been tweaking the program and now all balls begin empty as expected, so no problem ...
I have arrived to level 6 so it seems very playable now.
Thanks a lot for detecting these flaws and telling us!!

I plan to upload tomorrow the games detected till now, in their new version 2.0 that hopefully will solve the issues
cheers

Playing Night Stalker ZX, has anyone ever seen:

- more than one enemy dude
- any variation in the enemy dudes?

Youtube vid of the spectrum version implies both these things should happen. I've taken the score over 10,000...

BTW, the low resolution of this game seems perfect for a PMODE3 (or even PMODE1) option!

There are at least 2 or 3 versions of that game.
v01a, v01b...

i can confim THIS version has different bad guys in a speccy emulator.
but it takes a while for them to appear.

This version is exactly the same that was converted in AGD collection.
Looking at the AGD source file, it states that this is a "TEST COPY", not for REVIEW", besides I have found a call to an assembler subroutine
that has been 'skipped' in the converted version because it lies inside the Fonts characters. Maybe this might make any difference, not sure.

@sixxie
Can't believe you get that many points! I am very bad at that game, sorry :-(

EDIT:After searching for the asm code in the fonts, I have found out that it is related to the hi-scores.
The program saves the hi-score in five messages, so these are lost when you exit the program.

You can "camp" the bad guys in the bottom-left corner. Just don't be in their line of fire, and don't sit where the spider respawns (spiders & bats only disable you for a while, but that's long enough usually).

Of course then you run out of ammo...

Another trick is the long shot across the bottom just before they spawn - you can generally get out of the way of their shot, but they just walk straight into yours.

Jumpcollision appears to have some issues:

- baddies cluster at the top
- starts on level 9

I can find two gameplay videos of the Spectrum version, and one seems to show level numbers (like this conversion) where the other doesn't.
