Breakout/Middle Kingdom

Post by Mike Bradshaw »

I've got a Dragon Data 1983 cassette tape with Breakout and Middle Kingdom on it. These don't seem to appear in the download lists so I thought I'd try to upload them.

I have got them into .wav files using QuickRecord and both seem to load OK onto Xroar but don't then run.

I've looked at hints and tips but, being ABSOLUTELY non-techy, still don't know what to do.

Any really simple advice, or is it worth uploading the .wav files?

Hi Mike,

The Hints and Tips forum is a new addition, so there's very little info there ATM. Did you try typing EXEC [ENTER], or RUN [ENTER] after loading?

As far as I know, there are only two ways to load a tape depending on the type of files:

1) Type CLOAD and when the OK appear, type RUN
2) Type CLOADM and when the OK appears, type EXEC

If you can't get it to work, could you upload the wav file anywhere so we can take a look?

Yep, they're both CLOADM programmes and they appear to load with that command, ending with OK prompt. Entering EXEC then just brings up a garbled screen and nothing on the keyboard gets a response.

Incidentally, both worked OK on my old Dragon machine.

Some games are recorded in two or more parts on the same side of the cassette.

I think the best thing to do is record the whole two sides of the tape, upload it anywhere (megaupload, mediafire...) and post the link.

It's difficult to tell what's happening if we cannot see it

As suggested I've recorded both sides of the tape, I'm pretty sure it's two copies of each programme.

I've uploaded to megaupload, URLs are:

Breakout.wav ZO2758S7
Middle Kingdom RWO38U64

Hope you can sort them out!

The actual URL's are:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZO2758S7
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RWO38U64

I downloaded the Wave files, but the recordings are not suitable. DC reports "?IO Error: Block checksum failure".

That's a pity, thanks for trying.

Nothing I can do differently to make them usable then?

Just tried to download and it says unavailable... .if anybody has them, can they zip them and put them up here... or re-host somewhere.... I have quite a good track record with recovering files :-)
