I know sixxie mentioned something about XRoar not working on Nintendo DS for some versions now, and now is when I got a R4 Gold cartridge and XRoar 0.24 working on it.
So, I'd like to ask if there's anything I can help with to get it working once again, as I feel it's a great way to have the Dragon on the go.

It'd be tricky...
ISTR there being some unexpected limit on binary size, and of course getting it running fast enough would mean stripping back a lot of things - and re-adding the NDS-specific video and audio code from ye olde days.
But if you want a coding challenge, it should all still be there in the git history somewhere... It could certainly always have done with a fancier UI!
Realistically, it might be better to identify what the old version can't do and back-port support for the stuff you want.
