Prológica CP-400 Color & LZ Color64

Post by Bosco »

Can anyone who is familiar with either the Prológica CP-400 Color/CP400 Color II or LZ Color64 share what I'd need to copy/paste into xroar.conf to add them as virtual machines?

I have the roms, just not sure what the config should be.

TIA,
Steve

So reasonably sure the CP-400 is just a rebadged coco, so something like:

Code: Select all

machine cp400
  machine-desc 'Prológica CP-400 Color'
  machine-arch coco
  tv-type pal-m
  ram 64
  bas BASIC-ROM-NAME
  extbase EXTENDED-BASIC-ROM-NAME
Not sure about the LZ?

Oh by the way: that "pal-m" setting was based on a (probable) misunderstanding. When I saw pictures of brazilian clone output, they looked like they had their "artefact colours" shifted, which implied no correction circuitry to force those to red/blue. That might be nonsense, and I might just have been seeing a broken one :) So changing that to "ntsc" is probably valid.

It would be interesting to know for sure, because if it’s a PAL signal you wouldn’t have NTSC artifacts but colour blending each 2 scanlines, but at 60Hz.

You'd have both, I think, because PAL-M uses the same colour subcarrier as NTSC, so is subject to the same luma-interfering-with-colour effect that comes from pixel clock being an exact multiple of the colour subcarrier.

Certainly shots of the Brazilian clones always demonstrate some sort of cross-colour.

I messaged Luciano Scharf who confirmed that all Brazilian clones were based on the CoCo 1. There were two variants of the CP-400 Color, 16k and 64k. The CP-400 Color II was 64k only.

I think it would be cool if the CP-400 and LZ Color64 were added to XRoar for completeness. What do you reckon Ciaran?

A wee bit late to this (I really must check this forum more often!), but I think the CP400's are indeed PAL-M. My struggles to get a useable output from my pair drove me to do a bit of research, and I found this: http://www.retrowiki.es/viewtopic.php?t=200033264

I did the mods myself, and now the CP400s have nice, crisp outputs. I think the output is now kinda PAL at 60Kz.
