As I was going through some of my cassettes, I found this golf game (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5378)
That reminded me of a similar looking adventure/RPG game - top down 'graphical' using ^ for trees, and so on. Can anyone else remember it, or am I just imagining things?
What's this adventure game called?
Re: What's this adventure game called?
I reckon you're either thinking of "Quest" (also in text mode), or "The Ring of Darkness" (graphical).
Re: What's this adventure game called?
Could it be Lionheart?
Re: What's this adventure game called?
Actually, I think I've found it - it was "The Valley"

<After reading the magazine article> - yep, I'm fairly sure it was - I remember the name "Y'Nagioth" (odd how memory works isn't it
)
It was an absolutely awesome game (for the day) but, basically you needed to port it to your own system and type it in.
I've found a copy of it on a cassette here, but it errors out in XRoar. I'll have to try it on a real D32 to see if that works better.

Re: What's this adventure game called?
If you cannot get it to load, please post the wav file and I'll attempt to recover it.
Re: What's this adventure game called?
It seems to load OK, but I get a ?FC error when running it.
I must admit, I'm slightly puzzled. It's definitely the game I was thinking of, but I thought I remembered typing it in from the mag (after porting from PET Basic), but the one I've found has 2 BASIC sections, and 2 machine code sections - which isn't what I'd have done. So, I suspect I've found a "commercial" version of it, not the version I remember (maybe the version I have was for a Coco and is slightly incompatible). I'll have to investigate more.
(BTW, the links I posted above have BBC and Windows ports of the game. It was originally published in a mag as a game as a Pet version, but also as a teaching tool as it was designed to be ported and fiddled with. It was the first computer RPG I played (as we recognize computer RPGs nowadays))
