After a request on the Dragon FB group from Kataja Kirjuri, I've made a scan of the original DREAM Editor Assembler manual as supplied with the tape version.

One plain PDF, and one searchable (much larger PDF) attached here in a zip file.

My thoughts were making it do something gime or 6829-y with an external sram and a latch / transceiver. Then you could meet your "it's still a dragon" test but do nice os9 level 2-y stuff. Essentially a modern integrated version of the Bob Hall MMUs. However, it sounds like space is probably at too ...

Oh, interesting... One issue of Dragon Update in the summer of 1990 refers to Newsdisk 23... and lo... on there, there's a debugged (hopefully) initial draft of the complete design article for Bob Hall's CoCo3 compatible Dragon MMU board... and all the OS9 L2 modifications to run it.

And the Dragon 64 also had a 'mystery mod'. A twisted pair emerging from a little hole next to the cartridge port, going to a female header plug... I didn't get in to opening hardware, so what this little 'switch, if you plug one in' was doing is a mystery. One for next time.
