Taking the Dragon to new levels :-p

Yes, this is Level-2 running on a Dragon, to my knowledge for the first time since Bob Hall in 1989 piggy-backed extra 64K on his Dragon 64 and made his own MMU. And probably the first time on a Dragon 32 :) The MOOH board is the successor to the Spinx-512. Here is the PMAP command, showing running ...

Re: something new (quiz)

I admit you have to be far into OS-9/NitrOS-9 to spot anything new in that boot screen. Here is the banner page.

Re: something new (quiz)

You're good! Indeed it was a missing ASCII->6847 conversion. With all in upper case, and including the header since, yes, it is NitrOS-9 :)

Re: something new (quiz)

I hate to disappoint everyone but it is not a new, cool snake game... It was just luck and circumstances/side effects added some colourful dithering to the display. Here the cleaned, boring fixup. So it looks like some cryptic strings appearing...

something new (quiz)

I am brewing on something new to display on this year's VCF. To stir your curiosity, I will progressively drop some screenshots...

The hissing of the summer lawns? Is that a smiling green python snake on green grass? Or can something else be hidden in wonderful 6847 scenery?

Re: Vintage Computer Festival, Zurich, 19-20 November (2016)

Hello! I got silent here for a while, the organisation of the VCF last year took all my time, and after the event I was busy catching up with other stuff and lots of work. vcfech2016_IMGP1417_1024.JPG Anyway, the VCF was a blast! We had more than 1000 visitors, many nice exhibitions and we all had a...

Re: Nitr-OS9 vs OS-9

If you start using gdb on it, you might find these macros useful: https://sourceforge.net/p/nitros9/code/ ... ts/os9.gdb
The most useful macro "os9_mwhere" requires source listings to be useful though. Which brings up a question:

Has anyone done any serious disassembly on Dragon OS-9?

Re: Nitr-OS9 vs OS-9

Yes, the bootloader ("BOOT" command or DWDOS etc) simply loads the "kernel track" into memory from $2600 onwards, and jumps to $2600. This kernel track is composed of REL which relocates the whole thing to upper memory ($EE00 for NitrOS-9), the first part of the kernel OS9, the second part OS9P2, IN...

Re: Nitr-OS9 vs OS-9

Hi Mike, Interesting stuff! Yes, NitrOS-9 level1 has shared some development (actual modules) with level2 and although this has given level1 a lot "for free" it has also become more memory intensive. One could easily make jokes about level1, it has grown so many features and can now do everything......
