In response to Steve's question viewtopic.php?f=7&t=619#p4044, here's what I'm using to burn EPROMs for the Dragon
1) Willem Eprom Programmer

You will also need a standard 12V power supply to power it, and a Windows PC with a parallel port. I'm using Windows XP, not sure if the burning utility will run on Vista/Win7.
2) UV Eprom Eraser

3) IC extraction tool - highly recommended (although you can also use a flat screwdriver, but be careful).

4) EPROMS
The Dragon's ROMS (IC17 & IC18 as well as DragonDos) are 16K (128 bits) 27C128 eproms.
You can just as well use 32K/64K 28 pin eproms like the 27c256 / 27c512, which are easier to find .

For the larger eproms, just create a binary image in the appropriate size (32768 or 65536 bytes), with your rom data as the last 16384 bytes of the bin file.
If you use these larger Eproms, you can also quite easily build a bank switching adapter. See this post for instructions: http://www.delcohacking.net/forums/view ... ?f=11&t=56
This may look like a lot of details, but actually once you have it running burning EPROMS is a snap.

Thanks Ken!
Is it possible to re-use the original Dragon 64 EPROM chips with this programmer?KenH wrote: 1) Willem Eprom Programmer

Re: EPROM Programming Shopping List
Sure, but you do need the UV EPROM eraser.zephyr wrote: Is it possible to re-use the original Dragon 64 EPROM chips with this programmer?
Peel off the sticker which covers the window in the top of the Dragon's EPROMS and expose them to UV light for about 10 minutes.
Once they are erased they can be reprogrammed.
Re: EPROM Programming Shopping List
I have ordered all three items. Will let you know if/when they arrive.

Steve

Both items were shipped on the 16th, but I have been informed that the EPROM programmer could take up-to four weeks to arrive.

Yeah, shipping time from China/Far east can take a while.zephyr wrote:Both items were shipped on the 16th, but I have been informed that the EPROM programmer could take up-to four weeks to arrive.
I'm still waiting for the Max232 level shifter I've purchased a couple of weeks ago for a Dragon-Parallel to Drivewire adapter.

Re: EPROM Programming Shopping List
Ken, Which make/model of EPROM eraser/programmer do you use?
Re: EPROM Programming Shopping List
I use the Willem EPROM programmer. The same model as in the list above.zephyr wrote:Ken, Which make/model of EPROM eraser/programmer do you use?
It's an entry level programmer, but for occasional EPROM programming it does the job fine. Never had any problem.
Re: EPROM Programming Shopping List
What is the make/model of your UV EPROM eraser?
Re: EPROM Programming Shopping List
The list above is exactly what I have. There may be other more advanced solutions, but this is what I've been using now for over 5 years and it works!zephyr wrote:What is the make/model of your UV EPROM eraser?
The UV eraser is simply a box with a UV light bulb inside. Very low-tech...
