How to best clean dragon 32 keyboard?

Hi,

My old Dragon 32 is working perfectly except the keyboard not always reliably picking up key presses. It used to work perfectly 30-odd years ago; what are the recommendations for cleaning/restoring the keys? Is it safe to try to pop off the key covers to clean?

thanks!

Hi and welcome!

The keycaps will pull off; there's nothing holding them on other than friction. Take care to pull the caps off vertically to avoid straining the switch body.

Once the keycap is removed, the contacts are visible and can be cleaned. If you gently push the key down you can see how the contacts come together to give you an idea of where they need to be cleaned.

It might be worth trying dipping a thin bit of card in IPA and using that to gently wipe the contacts.

IPA - Isopropyl Alcohol, or Indian Pale Ale?

Sorry Stew, couldn't resist.
