We did an extension of the cas file format that allows extra information like gap sizes, to be stored transparently.

I don’t know why block size is inportant, as many games have DATA and END blocks in all sort of sizes.

Also, why is it easier to transfer back to original hardware? You would just have to generate a wav file and that’s it?

I don’t like the idea of modifying dumps as the main purpose is preservation.

Ring of Darkness [emu fix]
this failed to load in Xroar and MAME.

Hi Robcfg,
please understand, i only have emulators to play these games now.
My Dragon hardware is along time dead.
Emulation is the future of preservation.
lets have games for the masses not just the few. :D

Which Ring of Darkness tape images did you use and what was the problem? I ask because I have not seen any problem loading the archive's cassette images - http://archive.worldofdragon.org/archiv ... 0Darkness/ - in XRoar.

Hi Alastair,
you are correct, it is a good image.
I used that very same version in the archive.

the problem is ONLY with emulators and the motor on/ motor off routine.
the tape starts playing automatically as soon as it is inserted into the emulator.
as the motor is ON.

so if you follow the on screen instructions step by step, it will not load.
because as soon as you rewind the tape it starts to play again in the emulator (motor on).
however if you rewind the tape again, when the motor is OFF
i.e. when told to press play then any key, it will work.

it just makes life easier when running the game from a front end.
insert tape and press any key. no rewinding needed. ;)

this is a strange one...
i think the problem is with Xroar only, as it does load in MAME.

the sound fix patched version of Cuthbert in the Jungle fails to load.
trimming all the extra 55 bytes to match the original sizes fixes it.

just uploading for reference.
I will only upload all the others by request.

The tape image in the archive is corrupt (data from Diggem on the same tape).
this is a clean image of the Many Body program.

That is because Diggem and Manybody ARE on the same tape, so they belong together.

If you want to separate all programs from the tapes they are in because it's more convenient to you, fine, but that's not "fixing" that's "modifying".
