Cascade Cassette 50 - Redone

Post by Alastair »

The archive's copy of the Cascade Cassette 50 is marked as under dumped, assuming that this is due to shortened leaders I have used XRoar to pad out the leaders within the two cassette images, the new images can be found below. However these images contain 48 rather than 50 programs, are two programs missing or was the tape released two short of the advertised number?

Note that I have not tested all of the programs, after testing three I was in danger of losing the will to live.

I'm dumping the damned Cassette 50, and what's on my tape is completely different from the archive copy.

I'm stuck with a badly broken block from "The Force". Could someone with the tape record side B as wav for me, please?

The Force has 9 blocks on the archive copy, but on the original tape it's around 84, and seem to be a completely different game.

Cheers,
Rob

Hello Rob,

I have that tape.
I have made a copy of both sides and had only a problem loading "Planets", none with "The Forse" as it is named in my tape.
I used Audacity, but despite I asked for mono output, the result is far too big to be uploaded here ... it is some 30Mb each side (WAV)
What frequency did you use to record it to the PC? I think I used about 22KHz
I am testing now at half that frequency (11025 KHz)

Hello,

it seems a bit random ...
at 11KHz "Planets" loads perfect but "Parachute" fails

The good news is that with both copies I have all of them loadable. The games are very bad!
The size keeps being great anyway, now half than before: 15Mb each side ...

@Alastair
How did you get a so small zip with all these 50 games?

cheers

Hi Pere!

Thanks so much! Can you send me the wav files to robcfg at gmail dot com?

The games in the archive copy are different or mislabelled. The Force is a roulette like game where in the archive copy you have to dodge a kind of random force field.

As soon as I can complete and compare your files with mine, I'll upload them and fill the wiki page.

Regards,
Rob

Thanks Pere!

I've taken a look at the files, and they seem to be the same as the archive version. My tape is an original one (see pics here), but contents are different...

By the way, mine has 50 games on it.

I'm trying to fix the block right now, I will keep you updated.

Cheers,
Rob

comparing both covers, I have found a small difference in one tittle name:
number 49 is named "THE FORSE" in mine
while it is "THE FORCE" in yours

Had you found other games differences between them?

cheers

Good news!

I managed to get the whole tape dumped!

I'm taking screenshots and comparing the two versions. More on the wiki page when I'm finished with this.

Also, on my inlay there's a game called "Zion Attack", which is "Psion Attack" when loaded.
