Eurohard Dragon OS9 Level1 Version 2.0

Post by KenH »

OS9 Level1 Version 2.0 was the second release of OS9 for the Dragon.
This updated version was originally published by Eurohard in 1985.
Lafumat from retrowiki.es has shared this disk image which was missing from our archives until now.

The most notable new feature is instant switching between 3 text modes, with the new go32 and go40 commands (in addition to go51 which already existed in Dragon Data's V1.2)
There is also partial spanish localisation.

thanks Lafumat!

Excellent!

I've uploaded it to the downloads section. The name has been changed to "Eurohard SA - OS-9 Level 1 V2.0.zip".

Regards,
Rob

Edit: I'm trying to boot the image, but it gets stucked at the OS 9 BOOT message... Anyone has managed to boot it?

I've managed to boot it both on a real Dragon 64 and using MESS.
For some reason XROAR won't boot this image.

As a workaround, if you boot XROAR with Dragon Data OS9, switch disks to Eurohard OS9 and do a soft-reset it will boot into Eurohard OS9.
Since it works on a real Dragon it might be an XROAR bug.

BTW: it appears this disk was created on Nov. 28, 1985 by Jordi Palet.

Interesting - the hang in XRoar is because the boot code issues a seek to track 0 while already on track 0, then waits for BUSY. The WD279x flow chart indicates that in this situation, it shouldn't incur the usual head settle delay between tracks and thus become BUSY, but only by inserting some delay does this image boot.

Can't see that this modification would interfere with anything else, so the fix will stand...

I can't boot it on my Tano Dragon using LAFUMAT. It hangs on OS9 BOOT screen. Even swapping dragon data os-9 disk and soft-reseting it won't go.

I'm using 3 1/2 disks. Should I try 5 1/4 ?

uh-oh forget it ! I made another disk and it *WORKED* !

Now it deserves a revamp with rbsuper drivers, DW and everything else.

Thanks all for this little gem :)

I have recreated this disk in DMK format.
This DMK image seems to boot and run fine under XROAR!

Another new nice feature in Eurohard's OS9 release is the SCREEN command that can be used to toggle between white and green screen modes.

Thank you very much!

By the way, how did you convert it to .dmk? I'm having trouble converting the single side Telewriter image for Delta DOS to .dmk, you can grab the image here.
