Microdeal Escape for CoCo and Dragon

Post by zephyr »

The attached archive contains modified versions of Microdeal's Escape by Ken Kalish. Perhaps someone could post a link to this at the Coco3.com forums.

From the Readme:
Release Date: 27th December, 2010

This archive contains modified copies of the Microdeal publication "Escape" by Ken Kalish, for the Dragon 32. In total three modifications were made to the original game code as follows:

(1) Modified the original game code to make it compatible with all 16K+ CoCo models.
(2) Added extra code to make the game safe to run under all CoCo/Dragon disk operating systems.
(3) As there don't appear to be any surviving copies of the original CoCo version, I have attempted to re-created the title screens of the first ever publications, "Thinking Man's Maze", and Colorsoft "ESCAPE" from Color Software Services of Greenville, Texas.

This is an update to my previously modified version which can currently be found at L. Curtis Boyle's Tandy Color Computers Game List. My original modified release (April 2002) was sent directly to L. Curtis Boyle's via email.

I decided to release this improved 'DOS frendly' version because of a warning issued by L. Curtis Boyle about the original causing corruption of the floppy disk that the game was loaded from. The problem was caused by the original game (which was designed to be run on a cassette based system) overwriting critical area's of RAM used by most disk operating systems. The extra code mentioned in (2) above protects these critical area's by copying them elswhere, and restoring them when the game exits.
