For the record- they thought it was really hard- 21 was the highest anyone managed in a lesson.
Flagon Bird
Re: Flagon Bird
Sorry to necro this thread. Just wanted to say that I showed a whole bunch of year 7's and 8s some retro gaming on the Dragon today, and Flagon Bird went down a total storm.
I have a lovely picture of an entire y8 class playing it, and one in the attachment in close up that I can show as I have parental permission- as it is my y7 daughter. Next time I will get them on Dunjunz, perhaps.
For the record- they thought it was really hard- 21 was the highest anyone managed in a lesson.

Thanks for sharing @drmarkb.
It's always cool to see youngsters having fun with retro systems.
I really must blow away the cobwebs from my follow-on to Flagon Bird, and get it finished.

Re: Flagon Bird
No, its thank you- and of course Sixxie for the wonderful X roar online.
I even got to waffle on a bit about the Dragon itself, old computing generally, and Microsoft BASIC- the pupils could relate to a lot of the history as we are close to Fforestfach, which is home to a big Tesco, so most know the area.
Any sequel will be eagerly anticipated!

Re: Flagon Bird
Time to wake this thread up again - Flagon Bird, as well as Paul Shoemaker's games, have been very popular at this weekend's Retro Computer Festival in Cambridge. But I have a question for Steve - is the highest possible score 64? We had a young lad who THREE times (to everyone's astonishment) got to 64, but could get no further.
I still can't get beyond 6.

Re: Flagon Bird
Hah, lovely
Bit like the boy a few Dragon meets ago that did as well as I'd ever done on Blockdown on his first go. It's not that we're old though, right?
Re: Flagon Bird
I have a video of a friend of mine reaching 254 on an event in Madrid some years ago!
Re: Flagon Bird
Interesting. I''l need to check the src to see if I capped the score at 64 - Flagon Lord, on the later version. As Rob says, it was certainly possible to go higher on the first version.
Re: Flagon Bird
64 ought to be enough for anyone!
Re: Flagon Bird
I suspect you imagined no one would ever go over 64 - but then along came this kid who did it three times! And it surprised me as I'd seen Rob's video where someone went into the 200s ...
Re: Flagon Bird
It was 254!
And it's a pity he didn't do a couple more as it would have been fun to see if there was any glitch when the value got to 256...
