XRoar version 0.35 released

Post by sixxie »

Finally got around to packaging this up!

http://www.6809.org.uk/xroar/

Main new things are Tormod's contributed support for his expansion cartridges, reportedly better audio under Windows, Games Master Cartridge support and some fixes to the 6309 code that mean NitrOS-9 should boot again.

Still no Mac builds - sorry!

I was going to have some new code in here that supported quoted and escaped strings in the config file, but chickened out at the last moment as it may have broken people's xroar.conf. Be aware that may yet be coming in the next one (what, in 2020?).

Cool, thanks sixxie! :D

I can vouch for Windows sound support being much improved under the latest XRoar.

Also GMC support is proving invaluable. Adding GMC sound routines to Circe's Island was quick and painless. :D :D

Hi Ciaran,
I downloaded v35.2 which seems dated 2018-11-27 but now I have seen and downloaded snapshot 2018-47902 that seems to be from 2018-11-22
The exe file for v35.2 is about 2,4Mb long, but the snapshot is 3,9Mb

Apparently the snapshot talks about SN76489: Use libsamplerate instead of DIY low-pass filter
So I am not sure about which one of these two is the very last one ... or recommended to be used.
Thanks in advance
Have a nice weekend

Yeah the snapshot is experimental and from a different branch to the current release.

And yes, it is a sizeable library... But I hope to use it in more than one place (e.g., mixing in analogue tape input for AUDIO ON instead of the current 0-or-1 representation).

Has anyone here built XRoar 0.35.3 for Win64?

Audio is playing up a little on my Win10 PC running XRoar 0.35.2 but was fine on the previous two versions.

I'd build the latest version myself but it's a little out of my wheelhouse.

Hi,
Ciaran uses to have the Windows binaries on his page ... but at this moment it seems that they are not synchonized
as sources are version 0.35.3 but the binaries are still v0.35.2
I am still using these binaries, they work well for me.
cheers

Hi Pere.

I've noticed audio stutters slightly running v0.35.2 for me.

v0.35.1 and v0.35 seem perfectly fine though so not a problem. :)

Was just curious to compare with v0.35.3.

I didn't build 0.35.3 for Windows as there were no changes that would affect it
- it just fixes how PulseAudio (*nix-only) is supplied with data.

The likely change from 0.35.1 to .2 that's affecting you is the way it
negotiates audio parameters with SDL - it tries to force user-specified (or
default) parameters first, only falling back to letting SDL specify them if
that outright failed. Turned out that was necessary for some installs with 5.1
surround where SDL would helpfully pick that over stereo even if asked
otherwise...

Can you run .1 and .2 with the -C (console) option and tell me what it says
about the audio format in each case? Something like:

"16-bit signed little-endian, stereo, 48000Hz
2 frags * 1024 frames/frag = 2048 frames buffer (42ms)"

I imagine it'll be different between the two runs (and you might be able to fix
it yourself by specifying -ao-fragments or -ao-fragment-frames (but I'd like to
change any defaults to be more conservative...).

No problem.

I'll take a look when I get in tonight, and post my findings.
