Drivewire?

Post by lukeoftheaura »

I keep hearing about something called drivewire in relation to the dragon 32, but I'm slightly confused and getting conflicting information, I have a few questions:
Does using drivewire require replacing the ROM or using a cartridge?
Do I require special software for the dragon 32 and/or the PC to use it?
Can I load casette format software using it?
Thanks,
Luke

No cartridge needed (for a Dragon 64) but on a Dragon32, in order to use the DosPlus5.0 extended that is greater than 8K
this will need a 16k ROM to burn it on, so a cartridge will be required.
It is a very hepfull to have an updated BASIC ROM (upon machine type) to have the DWLOAD command from Dragon start.

Yes, for both sides:
- On the PC/Mac you need a file server: DriveWire4 (for instance)
But you could search for some other standalone implementations on r-Pi or others ...
If you just want to load single files from the server, you just need DWLOAD (Tormod Volden)
But if you want to read the contents of disk images and load/save data-programs, then you need
my DOSPlus5.0 extended in a ROM (because of the Dragon32. Dragon 64 switches to mode 64 and loads it into ROM area in RAM
Besides the software, you will need an adapter to connect the Dragon to the PC/Mac server (see Tormod products)
Can I load casette format software using it?
Thanks,
Luke
Tormod made a small DWEEB that loads simple CAS files ... but generally the answer should be:
Not all of them, the only way is CLOAD/CLOADM that require data coming into the tape port.
You could search in the Facebook group to find a nice Android app the allows users to load
any game converted into WAV file using the mobile. Game collection included!

Some urls that have info about this ...
