Re: Issues with the driveWire interface

Thanks, that's clearer in my mind. ;)

But I'm still not sure on how to start. All my tests where conducted with the DWDOS-like "quick loader". I used the small wav file (about 8 seconds) and the file "hdbboot.dsk" loaded in slot #0 of DriveWire. Should I still use this ? I mean I don't want to load DWDos, but the "DOS-Plus5.0 extended" instead.

Should I load DWDos before DOS-Plus5.0 extended :?:

Sorry for asking newbie questions...

Unfortunately the DOSPlus5.0 extended VDK I have uploaded on that thread is only of use for people that has 'real' floppy disks
and can copy the VDK into a 'real' floppy.
If not, the only chance is to use the dweeb called DP50XINS without extension
You will need the DW loader to do:
DLOAD"DP50XINS"
from you Dragon 64 connected to the PC server.
This will switch to MAP1 (all RAM), copy the Basic and install the whole DosPlus5.0 extended in high RAM
From that moment you have acess to all of the VDK on the PC side but remember this will only work on a Dragon 64
If you have a Dragon 32 then you need to burn a 16k ROM with the file:
DP50PSR-DW4.rom and put it into the expansion slot of the D32

If you have time enough, give a read to that thread, there are some ideas and you will find manuals and explanations along the many pages of that thread
kind regards

Hi Yoruk,
YES, you need the commnad DLOAD to be enabled, so if you have the standard BASIC
then you need to load first the DWDos from tape
Later copying the dweeb DP50XINS in the root of the drivewire server you could do
DLOAD"DP50XINS" or exec the start address of the DWDOS adding the DP50XINS
as a parameter between quotes

cheers

Okaaaayyyyy....

So in my case my floopy drive doesn't work (head problem I think) and I don't have the hardware to burn a ROM for my Dragon 32.

So I think that I just can't try it...?

And in my case I can't even make DWDOS working right.

I am looking for the "long" wav version of the HDB-DOS (not the 8 seconds wav file) to try it. Any links ?

I am sorry that you will not be able to test it ...
just because it uses the RAM from $E000 till $FB00 and these doesn't exist in a D32

Your only chance is to contact Ed Snider (aka Zippster) and order a CoCo-SDC module,
this will work flaslessly and you could forget about floppies and drivewire too!
Another chance would be buying a multi-ROM module as the ones built by rolo,
Roland Schweiger, here in the world of dragon, burn the extender inside an EPROM and use it ...
Probably most users will prefer the SDC solution as it has an SD where you can store
all of the VDKs you could afford and besides it has 8 slots of 16k Flash-RAM where you can
have DOS variants, ROMs ...

HDB-DOS is a port of the CoCo version, and so it just works with DSK files that must be 160k instead of the 182k
standard for the Dragon.
Anyway it could be of use to start OS-9 from slot 0 I asume (don't remember if I ever did so)

HDB was ported to the Dragon by Tormod Volden, so maybe you could find the whole file with that reference.

To make sure that I talk with the good words, DWDOS is the "easy to load" version of HDB-DOS ? (not sure to understand the differences between the two). I mean, DWDOS is the combination of a short wav file and the "hdbboot.dsk" loaded into Drive Wire ?

Well to sum up I just want to make something with my D32 and the driveWire Interface. Make the DWDOS works should be a nice start. But I just can't make it work for now.

I'll try the DriveWire V3...

I will try to start OS-9 from Dirvewire on Xroar emulating a Dragon32
As soon as I get it on I will let you know ... if I ever succeed

Re: Issues with the driveWire interface

back here again ...
I have been able to start NitrOS-9 from drivewire4 (via Becker Port) from a Dragon32
emulated machine by XRoar when using this ROM:
hdbdw3dgbD32.rom
At the same time I have put on slot 0 on the DW server this file:
nos9v303_d64COVDG_becker.dsk (uploaded by KenH some time ago)

The result is something like OS-9 in 32 columns (normal text), but probably
with only 32K there is no hope to do 'great' things :-(
But you see the Dragon has started with a non-std ROM but a customized one
that can talk to dw4.

What do you expect from the configuration you are talking about?
D32 with dw will not work with std VDK files, only hope is OS-9 and with just 32k
OS-9 will not work very happy ... already said, sorry.

Maybe Ken or other drivewire experts could chime in and tell us what to do
with your hdw configuration
