Orchestra-90 CC - now running without the cartridge!

Post by tjewell »

Well, we did it! The software from the Tandy Orchestra90cc cartridge is now running on the Dragon 64 without any additional hardware - here's a video of it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBWB0v4Ez3k (possibly not the most action filled video on Youtube!).

Huge thanks to Pere (pser1) and Stew (sorchard) who did the clever stuff with disassembly, converting it to use the internal 6bit DAC and integrating my code to remap the keyboard matrix. So we can now play the huge archive of 2,000 odd orchestra files Pere converted in the previous thread. Hopefully Pere will post the latest ROM images here shortly.

Cheers, Tony

Hi,
I attach here our last version. It is a VDK file that contains a Basic program that when run, switches to MAP1 to install the modified ROM and starts it.
The program to be run is "T.BAS".
Have fun with it!

Hello,
This is for the users that have a Dragon64 but not drives ...
I attach a new zip file that contains a basic file "CT.WAV" and the rom "OR90S1T1.WAV".
You just have to load the CT.WAV and run it.
When it asks for a file name, please enter this name: "OR90S1T1" and prepare that one to be sent to the Dragon ...
enjoy!

Hi,
Just a comment on that stuff.
Once you start Orchestra90cc you ONLY can LOAD and SAVE scores to TAPE ... only on a CoCo you will have the chance to do this with drives ...
It is all done with low level disk accesses.
We will try to imagine a way to allow Dragon users to the the same ... maybe(?)

back again
This is for anyone wanting to listen to the score collection (2446 files) on an emulator
This CAS files have a double length header, because sometimes the old files gave loading problems

cheers

Pd Just a reminder ... if you want to load these files in a real Dragon64, you will need the WAV collection.
You will find it here (in seven zip files)

Some additional info...

The Orchestra-90CC manual is available here:
http://www.colorcomputerarchive.com/coc ... Tandy).pdf

To load, compile and play a file from tape type 'G *' followed by ENTER. To play again type 'P' followed by ENTER.

Once again, fantastic work to all involved !

Been playing around with it in xroar before I try it on my D64.

Would be awesome if you can get it to work from disk on the dragon, will save a lot of hassle searching through 2500 files from my phone !

cool stuff :)

Very cool! Looking forward to trying this out. I hope there is a way we can load those files over DriveWire...

On Bill Pierce's Orchestra-90cc web page I found this Orchestra file player that works on CoCo and on my Dragon 32 as well it turned out. It must be using the "compatibility" vectors for keyboard entry. I haven't looked at it enough to see how it reads from disk or if it can read from tape, but at least it played sounds through the DAC when I entered them with the editor (E then for example "EEEC" and BREAK to get out, S to compile and P to play). Bill's disk image is a DECB image, so I have attached the extracted files here for convenience (read straight into XRoar - EXEC&H453A or DWLOAD).
