'SerialVGA'

Post by paul »

Has anyone played with one of these little devices:

I'm looking at getting one to try to interface it to my D64 (if/when it arrives from the US). It gives 100x50 text output to VGA with the option for text 'windows', and it's controlled by TTL serial port (so I may make a RS232->TTL converter or just hack into the D64 serial port before the level converter). It'll handle up to 115,200 baud, but will work with the 19200 baud that the D64 can output natively. If I can get it to work (I can't see why it shouldn't work), then I'll have a go at writing a GO51 compatible driver for it.

Instead of using the D64's UART which is limited to 19200 baud, I could see about getting a faster UART on the cartridge port - the D64 should be able to send data a lot quicker than 1920 cps.
