Stolen alien technology

Post by sorchard »

Give this wav file a try...

CLOADM to load & run. Works on a real Dragon and hopefully Coco as well.

Hint: turn the sound up while it's loading 8-)

AWESOME!

Works beautifully on my D64, congratulations!

Can the player be used standalone? And could you add some tutorial for converting XM files? It would be nice to do a musicdisk for the Dragon

Keep up the amazing work!

Yes the player can be used standalone

the XM files can be converted to assembly data using a perlscript (make 2 channel xm files using channel 1/2)

for the benefit of anyone who want's to become aquainted with the 2 voice player (standalone version), then you can download the .asm source here:

http://www.roust-it.dk/coco/dragon

this has been software timed, so it should work on any coco/dragon

there's a couple of example tracks in there and a perl based conversion routine to allow you to take XM tracks and convert those to .asm DATA

the .bin files all have an exec address of $3f00

Wow that's fantastic feedback. Thanks to all for trying it out. It shows there's a lot of love for our favourite ancient Motorola chipset :-)

I got a bit sidetracked today and have been in a bit of a rush adding notes & credits to the source. (See attached). If the loader parts of the code are removed, then the player will run standalone at around 13KHz. The frequency lookup table will need recalculating.

Feel free to use this for your own projects but don't forget to credit Simon for the use of his player. I wouldn't have thought this was possible until I saw how efficient the player was.

Edit:
 In my haste to get this out over the weekend I forgot to mention one very important detail:

This loader demo was intended to be a tribute to Shock Trooper, a fantastic game and IMHO one of the very finest available for the Coco/Dragon. Rob Shaw, we salute you!
