Dragon Floppies

Post by geirhovland »

Has anyone tried to connect an external 5.25" USB floppy drive to a PC to backup old Dragon disks with VCOPY.EXE ?

Alternatively, I have a dual floppy disk station from Dragon Data 1984 with a 34-pin connector at the back. Has anyone tried to make a USB connection for this drive?

I have about 200 old Dragon floppy disks which I would like to backup...

Regards,
Geir

Looks like I found what I was looking for: http://www.deviceside.com/fc5025.html

I will buy this product and try to connect my 1984 Dragon Disk station with my Win7 PC via USB.

Hi Geir

I went through this exercise a while ago, and I opted for reading the diskettes on my old Dragon using the old Dragon diskette drive. I wrote a small program back then to read the diskettes and dump them in VDK format to a PC over a serial connection.

Thanks Rolf,

his solution is available here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=238

Of course, with this solution you need access to a working Dragon 64 with an RS232 port. With the USB option, you just need a PC and the Dragon's floppy drive and disks.

I am going to try both options and post the results here.
