Last batch of SuperIDEs. Who would buy one ?

Post by retrocanada76 »

Hi,

Dunno if all know but the superIDE (which now runs on Dragon/Tano using native Dragon roms) is a retired product since Cloud-9 is developing their next-gen device. Which won't be Dragon compatible from day 0.

So I'm trying to convince him to do the last batch and he asked me to find out how big would be this last batch.

So who would be interested on it ?

I already own a SuperIDE, and am considering buying another one. Are any other Dragon owners interested in buying one from cloud9tech.com for US $110 + Shipping?

Mark also promised the new SuperSD by December 13. Summary of his posts in the CoCo list thread:
> What is this next-gen device? The FlashPAK on the Cloud-9 web site? Is
there any reason it won't be Dragon compatible from day one? When is
day one by the way? :) Any ETA?

SuperSD which will have FlashPak on it.
By December 13.

> Can you project a price for SuperSD? What will be the maximum practical card size?

No price yet. Will be similar priced as sIDE.
Put whatever sized SD in you would like.

> Is there a more detailed description anywhere for this? Is this the type of
thing that will allow us to put files directly on the card from a PC, then
simply move the card back over to the SuperSD for running directly on the
CoCo, or does it work the same as an existing solution with a more involved
process?

The SuperSD currently supports the FATxx file structure, so yes. Copy directly to SD. Target mounts transparent to the coco.

Target megaread times will be 7-9 seconds.

FLASHpak will be part of the SuperSD.

There will be a USB2.0 COM port on this board as well. This comm port will run at full bandwidth of the coco, not just a usb-serial interface.

My preliminary testing has capped this xfer rate at ~130KB pers second on raw transfers on the device. That is bytes not bits!

It will be a full sized cartridge device.

There will be two SD slots with dual color LEDs for Rd/Wr functions.

Oh...forgot to mention the cart will also have 512K of SRAM on it.

Looks great, but just too expensive for me to justify (especially at the minute).

Hello,
one month later nobody else seems to be interested about that Super-IDE from Cloud9tech.
So, what should we (the ones interested) do to get one?
Should we buy right from Cloud9 on their website?
thanks a lot
Pere
