Junior's Revenge by Dragon Data

Hi folks!

I have a problem with Dragon Data's Junior's Revenge.

I have dumped several tapes, which give the same cas file, but, when loading it on Xroar on both D32 and D64 mode, or loading the original wav on my real D64, it hangs when starting the game.

As I've told, I dumped all copies from two original tapes and none work, any ideas?

Here you have a wav file and a cas file.

Regards,
Rob

Hello,

It seems to be the same here.
One of the version seems to load/crash in a strange way: After a couple of seconds, 'OK' is displayed, but 'F' keeps flashing on the screen and loading never gets anywhere.

I also tried to load the version from my 'ARCAD05A.vdk' disk into XRoar. The game won't crash when EXEC'ed after loading, but does not seem to accept any input either afterwards. After a short while, it will just enter the 'Demo' mode, i.e. cycling between different static level screenshots.

Hello,

I loaded a WAV file that I think it was uploaded by Steve and works OK.
I attach it here.
Just opened a NON DOS D64 emulation and with Ctrl+L added the wave, then CLOADM
It starts by itself.
You need to press Ctrl+J to enable Joystick emulation and then press once the ALT key (button)
I have been playing a while with it. A bit complicated with keyboard.

regards
pere

Hi Zephyr!

I'm afraid I didn't explained myself well... The Computerware version is working 100% Ok, the one that does not work is the original Dragon Data version.

I've dumped two different Dragon Data tapes, and the .cas file are generated ok, but they freeze the Dragon when starting the game.

I dumped my own Computerware version of the game and runs flawlessly.

So, question is, does anyone have a version of the Dragon Data tape that actually works? Or were they all bad?

That copy runs perfectly under T3 Dragon 32 emulation, but crashes under XROAR Dragon 32 emulation.

Thing is... It crashes on a real Dragon 64!

Could someone test it on a real Dragon 32? Just to be sure.

I believe this will work on a Dragon 32 - the difference is that the broken version accesses a PIA at $FF2A, and the working version is fixed to use $FF22. The address decode is more relaxed on a 32 - but tightened on the 64 to fit the ACIA.

In fact now I come to verify that bit of the schematic, both PIAs have their address decode tightened in this way. New version of XRoar to come...

Edit: snapshot build uploaded

Try the attached (experimental) game patch on your real Dragon 64. Make sure DOS is detached and load the patch with CLOADM:EXEC before loading the game.

If the game crashes, try pressing the reset button to restart the game.
