Ah, the eighties... I was shorter, thinner and popular with the girls at school... Got a Dragon 64 as a birthday present and it felt like the future arrived. My father helped connect my Sharp boombox to the Dragon, but it always failed loading. We gave-up trying because I had an Atari 2600 to play games on, so for the first six or seven months I had to retype all my Basic programs EVERY TIME I turned the machine on, and copy the code to a notebook before I turned it off! I still keep 3 or 4 notebooks full of code. A classmate finally showed me how to set the recorder volume correctly...
My Dragon 64 is still in great condition, along with a joystick and a few games. Back then I had to justify to my parents every purchase that wasn't school-related, and believe me it was hard... I remember that the E key stopped responding once, and a local computer store charged a fortune to fix it. I'm a fast learner, so as soon as I had enough money, I bought a bottle of compressed contact cleaner. Lately I also had to resolder a loose connector under the Q key.
A month ago I've purchased a Tano Dragon from CA Digital; I just love the keyboard echo so I had to buy me another one...
Anyway, this is my first post here, so I thought you'd all like to read my Dragon story. I could also write about the great synthpop music of that period, but that's another story...
Be seeing you!
