I think the problem with a lot of these converters is they do a conversion to digital as (something like) YUV422 before scaling. This maintains the "half bandwidth for colour signals" property, but ignores the fact that each of those signals is continuous within the bandwidth limits - so it ends up quantizing the colour signal for each pair of pixels too early.

Or something.

Thanks to tormod's monitor list further up this thread, I can confirm that the Dell 2007WFP works very well to display the Tano Dragon's NTSC video signal through composite. Just arrived from eBay today. Worth noting that it also includes an s-video input and has very comprehensive image and colour adjustments.

The 2007FP is wide so wether you stretch the image or you lose 33% of the LCD :P The 2001FP is a 20" 4:3 what makes it ideal for the job. I do have one and love it. Also, you get the best C64 PAL LCD monitor ever using s-video.

But my tano dragon loves my Sony PVM, see the photos, forget the moire patterns they are not visible in naked eyes:
