I have just tested the wav file with xroar and I finally managed to get past the first part of the adventure and the second loaded successfully and took me to a tower leading down to a 3D maze.
So it must be the cas file that is the problem.

The wav that I uploaded was the cleanest copy on the tape (recorded twice on both sides) which is from an original Dragon Data cassette. The wav is complete but I had only checked the game as far as the first part so it could be the quality of the recording? Here are the instructions from the casset...
