Re: Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

You can read a lot on this subject in this thread: http://archive.worldofdragon.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=338&hilit=speed+poke Thanks, Pere. That's a very informative thread. Unfortunately, I could not find it myself because of this unusual search response: The following words in your search q...

Re: Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

A stupid question perhaps, but will a double-speed cartridge work on a Dragon that cannot take the double-speed poke itself? No, no, it's a very important question. One I would like to know the answer to myself! Are there Dragons and CoCos that cannot handle POKE &HFFD7,0 to speed up ROM access? Wh...

Re: Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

Hi James, I have made this test with two different cartridges. The first one was ASTROBLAST, this started alright with POKE&HFFD6,0 (normal speed) but strangely it hanged after POKE&HFFD7,0 (double speed) Then I used STARSHIP CHAMELEON and this one worked flawlessly at both speeds, in fact it is re...

Re: Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

Well, I have missed the CoCoFest deadline, but I do have a banked ROM that I can play (I had to cut the last few levels though, to save space). It only works in VCC and MESS 0.136b (if I add an entry to coco.hsi, including the CRC32 of the ROM) - it does not work in newer versions of MESS/MAME. I ca...

Re: Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

Some interesting answers here. I've got myself to within 512 bytes of being able to run Glove in a banked cartridge (two banks) on a 16K RAM machine. I had to make a little modification to the A09 assembler to export labels and I have to assemble everything twice (!) but it does the job. I've figure...

Re: Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

The problem with cartridges with more than 16k ROM is that you need to add inside the card the switching circuits you'd like to use. And decode to an address where you would write to change the bank. Well, John is dealing with the hardware and he is planning to make a similar cartridge. It's intere...

Could the Dragon use CoCo banked cartridges?

I've been invited by John Linville to make cartridge versions of my CoCo/Dragon games, namely Deathchase and Glove. Deathchase is a problem because I never managed to get permission from Mervyn J. Estcourt, but that fits into 16K so that's not the issue here. Glove would need at least 32K of ROM, ma...

Re: Rerip: Wizards Quest - Microdeal

The version at the Wizards Quest page is not this version, it's still an old version that I can't load on modern emulators. It loads on an old emulator, making me think it's one of those badly dumped tapes.

I became curious when I stumbled upon this game, as it looks a bit like an Atic Atac clone.

Again, mindblowing!

If I get another Dragon/CoCo game off the ground, I will be sure to call you for music & loader.

Re: musical tapeloader revisit

I love these beeper tunes that you're doing. Getting one to work while tape loading is pretty amazing, well done!
