Re: Text Adventure Creator Program - was there one?

Snarkhunter, that was fascinating reading, and even made some sense to a programming dullard lke me.

I may not be able to put any of it to use on the Dragon (I have no means of saving programs), but I'm sure I can put it to use on one of my other 8 bit machines.

Re: Text Adventure Creator Program - was there one?

@Commodore I've not used Lantern myself but, yes, my understanding is you can create your own adventure games on a Windows, Mac or Linux machine and kick out binaries for a variety of targets including 8-bit computers. I'm guessing the CoCo output should run on the Dragon but obviously the keyboard...

Re: Text Adventure Creator Program - was there one?

I've skimmed this thread and found it really interesting and useful - thanks especially to snarkhunter's description of how to use arrays. Back in the day I had an adventure from the CoCo that (memory fades...) I had problems loading in on a Dragon 32. During my attic find I also found a BASIC prin...

Re: Text Adventure Creator Program - was there one?

That's a shame. I do have a Windows XP laptop still in my loft, but the virus protection would well out of date, so I'd be reluctant to go online with it.
Shame.
Maybe my son's Raspberry Pi.

Re: Text Adventure Creator Program - was there one?

Loving the idea of that Lantern program Bosco, thank you. I shall certainly make soem time to look at that properly soon.

So in a nutshell, I can write an adventure on my Laptop and then save it to an SD card, and then load it onto my 8 Bit computers?

Re: Chess Wars - Battle of the 8 Bit Micros

Well, what an unexpected turn of events! In a mammoth match the VIC 20 playing Sargon II in the White Corner, and the ZX Spetrum playing Sinclair/Psion Chess in the Black Corner - and the VIC 20 won!!!! The VIC 20 was set to level 1 of 7, the Spectrum was set to level 3 of 10, I felt that this shoul...

Re: Returning member (Lancashire)

Yes, I've only had my Dragon for about 5 years, my Brother in Law gave it to me. I've always enjoyed using it though, and I think it's a much underrated machine.

Re: Chess Wars - Battle of the 8 Bit Micros

ROUND 1 ZX SPECTRUM 48K using Sinclair/Psion Chess Vs Dragon 32 using Cyrus Chess The Spectrum Game has 10 difficulty levels, as opposed to the Dragon's 9. The first game was played with both machines set at difficulty level 2, and the Dragon playing White. The Dragon won in 22 moves. +Denotes Chec...

Re: Returning member (Lancashire)

Welcome johnha. Always nice to see members that actually owned a Dragon in the 80s; I never did. VIC 20 in our household, followed by a Spectrum +3, which was supposed to have been an upgrade, not so sure about that one really... I remember the Dragon line of computers from 82/83, and then they seem...

Re: Chess Wars - Battle of the 8 Bit Micros

Well I got off to a false start today. Firstly BOSS Chess on the VIC 20 was taking an eternity to make its move, so I gave up on it. So then I thought I’d try the Spectrum against the Dragon. I loaded Super Chess, the first one I found on my SD card. Another mistake; it was taking several minutes be...
